Session One: September 19, 2021  4-5:30 pm

Reparations: What’s It All About?

This session grounds current calls for Reparations in our various faith

traditions and growing demands for racial justice. What are the long-lasting

harms that must be redressed? How can we achieve both repair and

reconciliation?

Session Two: September 26, 2021    4-5:30 pm

How Did We Get Here?

Why are reparations called for in Evanston; what was the harm and how

did it happen?  We will explore how public and private action led to the

segregation, diminished opportunity, and long-lasting wealth inequities

experienced by the Black community. We will also look at how the White
faith community responded to what was happening around them.

Where are We Today, and What's Next?

This session will focus on the details of, and differences between, the

two reparations programs currently available in Evanston and the

issues facing them.  We will develop ideas for how to support these

local programs as well as national reparations, both financially and

otherwise.
